Caldwell, NJ – June 11, 2014 – Recent alumnus David Reeth ‘14 and senior Kathleen Flynn represented Caldwell at the third annual National Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C. The event, which took place from May 31 to June 2, was hosted by the National Campus Leadership Council. It united more than 90 incoming and outgoing student government presidents from over 50 private institutions across the nation.
Reeth, who served as the college’s student government president for the past two years, and Flynn, who will assume the position in the fall, both thought that the Summit was a great way to foster interaction between outgoing and incoming presidents. “They can learn from each other, network, and create a strong national inter-university bond,” Reeth said. Flynn explained that the “outgoing presidents had a wealth of experiences, life lessons and advice that are invaluable for incoming presidents.”
The three-day Summit featured breakout discussions with top policy experts, leadership development workshops, and policy briefings at the White House. Major issues facing this generation of students were discussed, such as college affordability and student debt, youth unemployment, and sexual assault. Flynn said that the topics discussed were important and relevant, “It was an amazing opportunity to learn about national issues that affect our student body here at Caldwell and to also share the best practices with other higher education institutions.”
