The Bachelor of Science in Sport Management supports both the extraordinary growth in the business of sport and the increase in consumer demand for sports entertainment. Personal consumption expenditures on spectator sports have enjoyed impressive growth at over 6% per year since 2012. A commensurate increase in college and university sports programs provides additional opportunities for those with the right education and skillset. The BS in Sport Management provides essential skills and knowledge in management, ethics, marketing, communications, facility operations, risk management, and strategic leadership in the sports industry. A variety of career paths available within the amateur, collegiate, and professional sports industry include coaches, scouts, agents, advertising account executives, event coordinators, broadcasters, public relations managers, human resources specialists, statisticians, event and product marketers, facilities and operations managers, athletic directors, and administrators.
Earning a sports management degree opens the door to a variety of careers in the multi-billion-dollar global sports industry. Students will gain general business skills applicable to the sports industry and be ready upon completion of the degree program to begin careers in sales, marketing, event operations, communications, and more. The Caldwell University sports management degree program housed within our School of Business and Computer Science, places a heavy emphasis on experiential learning including our signature special topics course through our partnership with the NY Jets. Career Opportunities:
- Corporate Partnerships: The core business of a sports partnership manager is to develop partnership relations in the sports field and to manage sports sponsorships.
- Athletic Administrator: An Athletics Administrator is responsible for the administration of a specific athletics program, project, or function such as facilities management, team operations, event management, compliance, athletic student services, ticketing, public relations, and/or project management.
- Gameday/Event Coordinator: Maintain event schedules, coordinate the event planning and approval process, assist in administering facility and event management policies. Supervise event staff working rental events to ensure proper management of events.
- Parks and Recreation Manager: Parks and recreation management oversees daily operations in various parks settings, from the local community center to national or state parks. They handle issues like scheduling employees and overseeing recreational activities at camps, equipment maintenance, holiday celebrations, and landscaping upkeep.
- Sports & Health Club Manager: A sports club manager is responsible for the overall operation of a sports club, overseeing activities like member recruitment, scheduling practices and events, managing finances, staff supervision, and marketing.
- Sports Camp Director: plan, coordinate and manage the overall camp program, approve all camp activities and hire camp staff. The Summer Camp Director is responsible for communicating with all parents, guardians, teachers, counselors and other camp staff prior to, during and after summer camp.
- Sports Ticket Sales: This position is responsible for generating revenue through ticket sales and promotions while providing superior customer service.
Caldwell University’s Sport Management Program objectives and student learning outcomes align with the standards of specialized accreditation through ACBSP. Students who graduate from the Sport Management program will be proficient in business principles and practices in twelve essential business subjects, and will be proficient in oral presentations, written communications, and information technology skills.
