Political Science Student Interns with Washington Semester Program
Political Science student Nicole Nocera is taking part in the Washington Semester Program at American University which provides academic and experiential learning with an internship at one of D.C.’s most influential institutions.
“I landed an internship with the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals as a government relations intern and have been working on Capitol Hill every day,” said Nocera, a political science major with a minor in pre-law. She does legal research to support helping animals.
This semester Nocera and the other interns have visited the Supreme Court, walked on the floor of the House and attended a congressional hearing. They have met with lawmakers including Reps. Alcee Hastings and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen of Florida and Sen. Richard Burr of North Carolina. Nocera is taking a seminar in the justice and law program.
She has been thrilled with the program. “It’s definitely a great opportunity for anyone in the political science field or anyone who wants to go to law school.”
