Thesis Title: Stay on Course with the Compass in Your Heart
Identity IX and identity X represent one’s journey of transformation. The identity IX consists of several elements I have learned to use in my works, such as the use of colors, textures, shapes, and a focal point, to draw in the viewer using the appropriate aesthetic. Once this is taken care of, I focus my work on my relationship with myself, which translates to the viewer, in the capacity they can relate to it and/or simply take in my experience shown through my photographic images translated into sculpture forms. My guests step on the projected images specifically to convey my perspective on the environments that I have lived in. I chose my images specifically to convey my perspective on the environments that I have lived in.
The imagery conveys my inability to ground myself in whatever reality I may find myself in. It conveys the urge to transform after feeling lost in the environments I’ve been a part of. The viewer can relate to the struggles of finding one’s identity in a world where we can live in a large, fast-paced cities, smaller scale local communities, all the way to a forest without any signs of humanity. My choice for having the images and grayscale in the first part of the show specifically conveys a sense of dullness that describes the past experiences of my old self. The addition of color in the second part, identity X clearly indicates that my āTrueā self has been identified, and there’s a certain richness of life that comes along with that. The journey of my transformation is conveyed to the viewer through the illustration of my relationship within my changing environments.
