Music Department Chair Dr. Laura Greenwald is a guest on One-on-One with Steve Adubato to share the innovative ways her department has been teaching music during the pandemic.

Greenwald tells Adubato how she rehearsed inside and outside with her students in the chorale, wearing masks while staying socially distant.  They worked with professional composer Karen Siegel to learn how to use technology to perform live over the internet for a  performance on Facebook Live. They talked about the importance of keeping music alive and the arts in bringing people together in times of crisis like the pandemic.

Greenwald talks about how she created a new assignment in the fall  semester where her students interviewed the Sisters of  St. Dominic, the order that founded Caldwell University, about their connection to two songs the chorale sings–the Dominican Magnificat and the Dominican Blessing. She shared how the marching band, under the direction of Rebecca Vega, performed in the parking lot one Friday evening and marched in a little parade for a local woman’s 100th birthday, and how the jazz ensemble, under the direction of Rob Middleton, had students direct and record their songs.
