Mason Corby: Mental Roots
ARTIST STATEMENT
Through the medium of graphic design, I seek to explore the fragile aspects of the human psyche. As an artist based in a suburb of Washington DC, I am constantly surrounded by the hustle and fast paced movement of city life and the constant noise and stimulation that can take a toll on one’s mental health. As an artist, I explore the intricacies of mental health, connecting grief and resilience within my journey, being influenced by the profound loss of my father last year. Through my art, I confront the complexities of grief within mental health, navigating the emotions that accompany such a profound loss.
Clothing, for me, serves as a canvas for expression and connection. I use clothing to create a visual language that speaks to the welcoming embrace of mental health. Each piece is meticulously crafted to evoke a sense of comfort and understanding, inviting viewers to engage in a dialogue about the often-unspoken struggles we face.
My work is a testament to the power of art as a tool for healing and transformation. It is my hope that through my art, I can shed light on the beauty and resilience that can emerge from the darkness of grief and mental health challenges. Together, let us connect a narrative of empathy and compassion, embracing the journey towards healing and acceptance.
