Caldwell University Receives Full Reaccreditation from Middle States Commission on Higher Education

Caldwell, N.J., July 6, 2015 -Just one year after having achieved university status, Caldwell University is celebrating another milestone–receiving full reaccreditation from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.  The accreditation is for a 10-year period, the maximum term allowable, reaffirming accreditation through 2025.

Caldwell President Nancy Blattner said the achievement is a positive validation of the tremendous strides Caldwell University continues to make. “Through this very public acknowledgement, I am thrilled that our students and their families will recognize the high quality of the education they are receiving here at Caldwell.”  She expressed her appreciation for the years of hard work involved in the preparation of the reaccreditation materials. “This was a collaborative effort by many across the campus, and I am most grateful to all those who served in a leadership role, participated in study groups or met with our visiting Middle States team.”

The achievement of re-accreditation follows an intensive and lengthy process.  Institutions seeking re-accreditation must demonstrate their compliance with 14 standards of excellence as outlined by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, as well as compliance with an additional four requirements as outlined by the federal government.   Caldwell was in full compliance in every area, a notable achievement during a period when higher education is under intense scrutiny from various constituencies.

In addition to receiving re-accreditation for the maximum allowable term, Caldwell received two commendations from the Commission, one for the quality of its written self-study document and the second for the inclusivity of its overall process.

Dr. Marie Mullaney, professor of history, led the Middle States efforts in partnership with the Board of Trustees, the president and her cabinet, a five-member steering committee, and 14 campus wide work groups.

The Middle States Commission on Higher Education is one of six regional accrediting bodies that define, maintain, and promote standards of educational excellence across institutions nationally and internationally. The Commission is authorized by the U.S. Department of Education to conduct accreditation and pre-accreditation activities for institutions of higher education in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. MSCHE is also recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
