Anusha Pandey ’23: A data-driven problem solver and innovator!
Anusha Pandey remembers when she first became interested in data analytics. She was a young girl when her father, a technology industry professional in Nepal, showed her how he turned raw data into “beautiful and informative” visualizations. “That’s when I knew I wanted to dive deeper into the data field and explore all the ways in which it can be used to make sense of the world around us,” said Pandey, who recently earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science degree with a minor in data analytics from Caldwell.
“I see myself as a data-driven problem-solver and innovator, working on cutting-edge projects and solutions that have a positive impact on society,” said Pandey, who plans to work in the technology field before pursuing graduate studies in data analytics.
From the time she was 12 years-old, Pandey was “fascinated by American culture and the endless educational opportunities.” While looking for colleges, she stumbled upon Caldwell University and its rolling admissions. The small school size and picturesque campus captivated her. “Once I got accepted into Caldwell, I was over the moon … I was determined to try everything and utilize every resource available to me.”
And that she did. Pandey engaged in her studies, worked on Caldwell’s website in the University’s Digital Content and Communications Department and interned at Valley Bank and for the poetry journal website run by English Professor Dr. Mary Ann Miller. Pandey was accepted into the honors program, presented her independent project on “Data Visualization of Real Estate of the Northeastern Region of the United States” and was a member of a cohort that jump-started a mentorship seminar, DataJam, with a local high school.
Pandey is most grateful for the “unwavering support” from her honors co-directors as well as her professors and supervisors. “Their guidance and belief in my abilities have been instrumental in helping me achieve my goals,” she said.
But definitely high on her list of fulfilling activities is being a member of the student-led collegiate service organization Circle K, part of Kiwanis International, in which she connected “with an incredible group of college students throughout New Jersey” while engaging with community leaders in the borough of Caldwell. She learned about civic engagement while collaborating with the Kiwanis Club of West Essex and on the annual Caldwell Street Fair. “My time in Circle K was an emotional and impactful experience that pushed me to be my best self and make a difference in the world,” said Pandey.
The University community recognized Pandey’s giftedness, presenting her with the Excellence in Leadership Award at honors convocation this year.
As a young professional and leader who took risks to come across the world for her university studies, Pandey said the effort was worthwhile, and she encouraged students starting out to take the first step and see what great adventures lie ahead. “To all my juniors: Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there! Your college journey is just beginning. Embrace the opportunities and make the most of your time at Caldwell!”
