Professional Licensure and Certification
Professional licensure and certification requirements often vary from state to state. Therefore, students enrolled or considering enrollment in Caldwell University academic programs that lead to obtaining professional licensure should be aware if the program does or does not meet professional licensure or certificate requirements in the state where, as a graduate, the student plans to practice their profession. It is highly recommended that prospective students contact the appropriate licensing agency to seek information and additional guidance before beginning a program.
Relocating during the course of a program to another state may impact if the student can remain in the program and meet the state licensure requirements after graduation. Prior to relocation, please contact your program coordinator to discuss authorization and licensure eligibility requirements.

Counseling and Art Therapy: Caldwell University’s Masters-level programs in the Counseling Department include Clinical Mental Health Counseling specialization, School Counseling Specialization, Clinical Mental Health Counseling specialization with Art Therapy Concentration, and Art Therapy. These programs prepare graduates for entry level practice in their fields but the graduate also must meet the laws and regulations in their jurisdiction where they wish to practice. Sometimes counselors and art therapists have title protection, meaning that they must hold a license to practice in that State to be able to work.

The School Counseling program meets the requirement for certification as a school counselor in New Jersey and may meet the requirements for licensure as a mental health counselor with careful advisement.
