Penalties for Missed Study Hall Hours
To ensure Caldwell University student-athlete’s attendance at the required number of hours each week, the following penalties will be in place for missed study hall hours.
1. First Offense – The rollover system: The student athlete make up the hours missed for the previous week in the subsequent week.
a) For example, if a student-athlete is required to have 3 study hall hours for the week and only earns 2, the student-athlete must obtain 4 the following week or a second offense will occur.
b) If the student athlete anticipates a busy schedule for the next week, the SA can do up to one additional hour of study hall for that week, which can roll over to the next week. This extra hour will only count if it is completed in the designated study hall session, it will not count if it is done in the Academic Support Center.
2. Second Offense – The Student Athlete will be suspended for a game. If the sport is not in season, the suspension will roll over to the next playing season.
In the case of extreme and extenuating circumstances that prevent a student-athlete from completing their required hours, the student-athlete must meet with the Compliance Coordinator or Assistant AD. If it can be determined that the circumstances are extreme and extenuating, an exception to the penalty will be granted as long as the student-athlete makes up the required hours during the subsequent week.
