Music Department
The department offers a Bachelor of Arts in Music. This program of study is an excellent subject area for Elementary Education majors and for Secondary Education majors pursuing certification to teach grades K-12.
Bachelor of Arts in Music
The Bachelor of Arts in Music offers you the opportunity to grow into your musical potential and develop the necessary skills to perform as an artist and/or work as a teacher through a variety of courses and ensembles. Caldwell music courses include music theory and history, ear-training and conducting, as well as a range of electives. There are many exciting performance opportunities through ensembles, including the marching band, wind ensemble, chorale, jazz ensemble, and the percussion ensemble.
Bachelor of Arts in Music Education
The B.A. in Music with Certification in Education K-12 offers the opportunity to graduate with two majors, a content major (Music), AND an Education major. The content courses ensure that you know what to teach, while the education courses ensure that you know how to teach. Music education majors develop the necessary skills to become successful teachers through a variety of courses and ensembles.
Minor in Music
The Minor in Music offers a way to expand your theoretical and historical knowledge of music, improve your musical skills and enjoy making music as part of a community. As well as providing a creative outlet, the ensembles provide a connection with students throughout the university and often lifelong friendships are formed. Skills developed with the music minor can be used for private teaching, music leadership in churches or other organizations, creative arts therapies or simply for personal enjoyment.
Minor in Music Industry
A Music Industry Minor provides an introduction to basic skills you will find useful if you wish to work in some aspect of the music industry. Combining a wide range of options, courses are drawn from the School of Business, Music Department, and the Communication and Media Studies Department, providing a foundation to work in the many opportunities available in the music industry.
