Visual Art & Design
The Visual Arts at Caldwell University
The Department of Visual Art and Design provides students with a comprehensive education in the arts that fosters individual creativity and marketable career skills. Our programs offer students a wide range of artistic experience, both in majors and minors. Art majors begin with foundation courses in drawing painting, design, sculpture, printmaking, photography, and digital art. Students also develop analytical and critical thinking skills through the study of the history of art. By analyzing historical and contemporary art students learn new terminology and concepts that they apply to annual critiques as well as their senior thesis capstone project. As students advance, they choose a specialization in any of these areas, enabling them to develop their own ideas and expertise in their chosen career path.
Finding viable careers in the art world after graduation is an important consideration for our students and for our programs. To this end we offer a variety of B.A. and B.F.A. majors that lead to employment in art education, art therapy, graphic design and the museum field. Our rigorous B.F.A. degree in Art and Graphic Design prepares students to pursue advanced study in a graduate M.F.A. program or begin professional art practice.
