Sr. Arlene Antczak, O.P ’69
Career/Ministry profile: Sister Arlene Antczak, OP is the former Prioress of the Sisters of Saint Dominic of Caldwell, NJ. She served in this capacity from 2005 to 2015 and was an ex officio member of the university’s Board of Trustees. As Prioress, she initiated a plan and collaborative process to explore the mission effectiveness, viability, sustainability and new governance models for the congregation’s sponsored ministries.
Sister Arlene’s early ministries were in elementary education at St. Joseph’s School in Union City, Lacordaire Lower School and Mount Saint Dominic Academy Grade School. In 1978, she became principal of Lacordaire Upper School where she served for 5 years. For the next 21 years, Sister served at Saint Dominic Academy in Jersey City, NJ as director of guidance, assistant principal, registrar and student crisis counselor.
Education: Sister Arlene earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education/Social Studies from Caldwell College and a Master of Science degree in Counselor Education from the University of Dayton, Ohio. She holds certifications in New Jersey for Elementary School Teacher, Secondary School Counselor, and Substance Abuse Awareness Coordinator. Sister also is a certified spiritual director.
Presently, Sister Arlene is ministering in a variety of areas including spiritual direction, facilitation, seminars and workshops for parish staffs and individuals.
Alexander R. Giaquinto, Ph.D.
Career Profile: Dr. Giaquinto began his career in the pharmaceutical industry as a senior scientist with Vicks Division, Research and Development, Mount Vernon, New York. Over the years, he held many positions at Schering-Plough Corporation including senior vice president of Schering-Plough Research Institute. He was instrumental in establishing the development and regulatory strategies for the approvals of 74 NDAs, nine BLAs and 28 ANDAs and many Rx-to-OTC switch strategies. He was senior vice president for global compliance at Schering-Plough Corporation until his retirement in January 2004. He served as a member and chairman of the regulatory affairs coordinating committee of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers Association. He was one of the original members of the steering committee of the International Conference of Harmonization and served as one of the two U.S. pharmaceutical industry representatives from 1990 to 2003. While serving on this steering committee for ICH, he introduced the concept of the common technical document and served as co-chair of the Common Technical Document Implementation Coordination Group and the Global Cooperation Group. Dr. Giaquinto is a member of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Sciences, the American Society of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics and the New York Academy of Sciences. He has lectured in food and drug law for Temple University’s graduate program in QA/RA. Dr. Giaquinto is a member of the board of directors for Biothera Holding Corporation and Biothera Pharmaceuticals Inc., both of Minneapolis. He has also held board positions with SemBioSys Genetics and Protox Therapeutics, both of Canada, and CannaPharmaRx of New Jersey.
Education: Dr. Giaquinto holds a B.Sc. in pharmacy from St. John’s University, Jamaica, Queens, and a Ph.D. in pharmaceutical medicine from the University of Connecticut.
Community involvement: Dr. Giaquinto spends most of his volunteer time with the Kessler Foundation, for which he was a board member, and with Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation. He served as chairman of the board of Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation for 13 years and has served on the hospital and foundation boards since 1989. In 2003, he was appointed a member of the board of trustees for Caldwell College, now university, and has served on the development and audit committees and as chairman of the board in 2009 and 2010.
Linda Luciano, Ed.D., M.B.A.
Career Profile: Linda Luciano, Ed.D., M.B.A., has had a distinguished career in the industry sectors of higher education, workforce development, entrepreneurship, banking, and insurance. She served in significant senior leadership positions, including Associate Dean and Chief Operating Officer, Vice President of Planning, Chief of Staff to Presidents, and Compliance Officer.
In 2017, after more than 40 years coaching, mentoring, championing, and advocating for senior leaders, administrators, staff, faculty, and students, she launched CareerCoachingbyLinda, a firm that specializes in empowering women in academia to navigate the intricacies of their careers. She has also coached young adults in launching their careers.
Community Service: Linda served as Chair of the Caldwell University Board of Trustees from 2020-2022. She joined the Caldwell University Board in 2004 and served on each board committee. In addition, she chaired the Academic Affairs, the Buildings and Grounds, the Compensation and Executive Committees. She served as Secretary of the Board from 2006 to 2008 and as Vice Chair of the Board from 2016 to 2020. In addition, she chaired the Caldwell University Presidential Search Committee from 2019 to 2020.
Education: Dr. Luciano earned a doctorate in higher education management from the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education, a Master of Business Administration degree in marketing from Seton Hall University, and a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration, cum laude, from Caldwell College for Women, which is now Caldwell University.
Community Involvement: Dr. Luciano is a member of a Small Christian Community (SCC) affiliated with St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Cedar Grove, NJ. Previously, she served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Urban League of Essex County.
Helen Westervelt ’80
Career Profile: Helen Westervelt is the former President of the Regulatory Services Division of the National Council on Compensation Insurance. She spent her entire career with NCCI. As a recognized expert on workers compensation, Helen led a division of more than 150 professionals who worked closely with state insurance departments and legislators across the country to maintain a healthy workers compensation system. She retired in 2016. In retirement, Helen supports numerous charitable organizations and small businesses that fulfill dreams.
Community Involvement: Helen was chair of the Board of Trustees from 2010-2012. During 2008-2009, she chaired the Caldwell College Presidential Search Committee and made a major leadership gift to the Excellence in Action Capital Campaign. During her tenure on the Caldwell Board of Trustees, Helen fostered strong alumni relations and played a prominent role in attracting more alumni to the board. An active member of the Alumni Board for six years, she chaired the Homecoming Committee and was a major supporter of the Tricky Tray fundraiser. The Alumni Board voted to name her an emerita member after she served her final year.
Education: Helen graduated from Caldwell in 1980 with a double major in Mathematics and English.
Other: Several members of the Westervelt family are alumni of Caldwell and support its activities and fundraising. The Westervelt family also received the first Family Legacy Award from the Alumni Association.
