Carlos M. Pomares

Career Profile – Carlos M. Pomares is vice president of the Essex County Board of Commissioners and commissioner of District 5 for the County. He is executive director of the Cuban Arts Fund, a non-profit that supports artists of Cuban ancestry and provides public programming aimed at creating a broader appreciation for Cuban arts and their global impact, historically and in today’s society. Carlos served as Councilman-at-Large for the Township of Bloomfield, New Jersey from 2014 to 2017. He has extensive experience in non-profit operations, leadership, and marketing having worked in leadership at several organizations including the Montclair Historical Society, the Waterloo Foundation for the Arts, the New York City Police Museum, King Manor Museum, and President Grover Cleveland’s Birthplace. He is an adjunct professor at William Paterson University in political science and at Hudson County Community College in history and political science.
Education: Carlos holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History, a minor in political science, and a certificate in communications from Caldwell University and a Master of Arts in Museum Administration from Seton Hall University.
Community Involvement: Carlos is the founder of the vintage automobile club, the Bloomfield Cruisers which organizes fundraisers for charities including toy drives and a scholarship initiative. He serves as chair of the Bloomfield Morris Canal Greenway and is a member of the Caldwell University President’s Advisory Board. He has served other organizations including the Cub Scouts in Bloomfield, the Bloomfield Parking Authority, and the Bloomfield Historic District review project. Among his many awards, he received the Hispanic Heritage Man of the Year Award, the Public Servant of the Year Award from the Essex County Latino-American Chamber of Commerce in 2019, and the Caldwell University Veritas Award for Cultural Excellence in 2017.
