Caldwell, N.J., May 27, 2015 – Caldwell University has been nominated for an Atlantic Health System 2015 Empower Award in the category of Community Partner.

The Community Partner Award honors local organizations from throughout the communities served by the Atlantic Health System’s hospitals for their commitment to exceptional service in creating healthier communities.

Caldwell’s Nursing Department partnered with the Nursing Research Department at Morristown Medical Center to create a dedicated education unit in which students were paired with staff nurses for a research project aimed at improving teaching/learning outcomes for students and staff. “The initiative created great enthusiasm and publicity throughout the hospital, and plans are under discussion to continue the project in the next academic year,” said Dr. Theodora Sirota, interim director of the Nursing Department at Caldwell. She explained that the education unit is being recognized for service to Atlantic Health based on its innovative and creative model of providing evidence-based health care in acute-care settings and that data related to student/staff outcomes and satisfaction with the experience are being analyzed.

Organizations nominated in the Community Partner category will be recognized at the awards ceremony on Wednesday, June 3, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the College of Saint Elizabeth. The public is invited to attend.
