Corey Dacosta: LOVE FOR EARTH
ARTIST STATEMENT
Earth is home to all living and nonliving things. Going from humans to plants, animals to bacteria all around the world. Earth has offered sanctuary to us since history could remember. From the oxygen from trees and plants, to the water people drink everyday, all the nutrients we get from vegetables and fruits, to the very air we breathe everyday, and a lot more. With this all said, how have humans looked to make sure Earth is taken care of also. With climate change growing more and more as a concern at the time, have we as humans done enough to take care of Earth?
The best way of presenting this information in a short form would be through infographics. Graphics give that visual representation to the information and the information summing up what the topic is about. The balance between both graphics and information is a seemingly easy and powerful way of presenting information, but finding that balance is the most challenging part of this work. The work is made with the combination of vector art and images put together to give the visual aspect and the information was placed in accordance with the visual elements keeping an even balance between negative and positive space around the whole poster. The infographic, as small as the information and as simple as the graphics may be, when put together they make up a great deal of information and visual representation. That is why this exhibition is done on Native Americans and how they view Earth, because no matter how many different tribes or communities there are, they always come together to solve any issues there may be. They also look to create that sense of balance between the Earth to where through respect of the land and looking to preserve its natural beauty, the Earth will provide back into their life. Hope this opens a new look on Earth and most importantly, a new love for Earth.
