Acrobatics & Tumbling Makes History with Program’s First Victory

Caldwell University Acrobatics & Tumbling scored 8.5 or better on six different heats, the last an 8.5 by senior Eliah Cardone (Bristow, Va.) on the final open tumbling heat, as the squad took the second-year program’s first-ever victory, a 190.115-189.270 triumph over Stevenson University at the Newman Center on Saturday afternoon.

The day got off strong for Caldwell in the Compulsories, as the Pyramid squads scored a 9.1 and the Toss checked in with 8.9 to give the Cougars a 28.45-21.95 advantage. Acro’s third heat, the seven element foursome of freshman Jahnessa Morales (Hamburg, N.J.), soph Kaytence Vining (Latham, N.Y.), Cardone and freshman Mariana Aiello (Concord, Calif.) scoring an 8.5 as CU led by 5.8 after Acro.

Pyramid saw two more big CU scores, the first and third heats (8.6 and 9.2, respectively), lifting the Cougars’ advantage to 74.15-6675 heading into halftime.

The toss produced two more 8.0+ scores and Cougars tumblers set the team up for success heading into the Team Event with the duo of Cardone and soph Piper Fitzmaurice (Middletown, N.J.) landing an 8.25 and soph Jill Riggio (East Windsor, N.J.) nailing the six element for a 7.825 score.

First-year Head Coach Amirah Boyd notched a victory in her first collegiate coaching meet. 

The Cougars next visit Georgian Court on March 20 for a tri-meet along with LIU, then return home for a matchup with Buffalo State on March 27 at the Newman Center.
