Donna Moran: Recent Work
Configuration, Transformation & Assembly: The Recent Work And Studio Process Of Donna Moran
The Visceglia Gallery at Caldwell University is proud to present, ”Configuration, Transformation & Assembly: The Recent Work and Studio Process of Donna Moran”, which will be on view
from February 12 through March 8, 2015. A public reception for the artist will be held Wednesday, February 18th from 430-7 PM.
Included in the exhibition will be working from recent bodies of work including, ‘Configuration, Transformation & Assembly”, “Conversations with E. Vila Matos”, “A Hurricane Named Sandy”, “Point of Contact” and “Cosa si Intende per Essere Successo”.
Acutely sensitive to the physical environment, Moran creates reduction silk-screen prints that are often modified by hand-painting. To deepen the invented topography, she will often collage over these painted prints with adhesive-backed reprints of her silk-screen images. The process is recapitulated when she digitally scans this multi-media image, to then make a subsequent print that furthers the transformation. Because her projects morph through this generative cycle of mediations her visual language is layered with textural richness and uncertainty that matches her subjects.
Moran’s work and studio process image-making can be seen in her response to natural events and changes. She describes how Hurricane Sandy forced her out of her studio, “When I was able to return, my imagery became reflective of the physical damage created from hurricanes and tornado, and from the over-development of coastal regions of the Northeast and of my native Midwest. The recent combination of continuing natural cataclysms and man-made opportunities for disasters has deeply affected my perception of our physical environment.”
On view in the exhibition will also be a series of works that will help the viewer see the some of the steps in Moran’s studio processes.
”Configuration, Transformation & Assembly is free and open to the public daily from 9-5 pm.
