NEXUS Academic Success Program
Mission Statement
The Network for Excellence in Undergraduate Success program (NEXUS) is dedicated to supporting a diverse population of first and second-year students who may need extra assistance as they navigate their transition to college. Our goal is to empower students with the skills and confidence needed to succeed and excel during their journey at Caldwell University and beyond. Caldwell University’s core values of respect, integrity, community and excellence serve as the basis of the NEXUS program.
Eligibility
Determined based on:
- High school transcripts
- Test scores (i.e., SAT, ACT, etc.) if applicable
Note: EOF students are not eligible due to workload
associated with each program.
Support Services
Academic Coach
Dedicated academic coach to assist you throughout your first two years of college. The Academic coach will help you to:
- develop and achieve individual goals
- identify obstacles preventing your success and identify how to overcome these obstacles
- become a self-regulated learner
- Employ effective learning, time management, and organizational strategies
- Learn about campus resources
Workshops
Focused on important skills to success in higher education. Examples include:
- Goal Setting
- Testing Taking
- Time Management
- Procrastination
- Active Reading
- Active Note Taking
Tutoring
- Free subject tutoring and writing assistance throughout your CU career
Program Participation Requirements
Academic Coaching Meetings
- Three required meetings each semester with academic coach
Workshop Attendance
- Required to attend at least 3 per semester
Attendance to Tutoring or Writing Center Appointments
- Need based, first four semesters
Incentives
Book Stipend or Free Summer Course (pending the seat availability)
Upon completion of mandatory requirements and,
End of the First year (GPA of 3.0 and 24 credits earned):
- One free 3 credit summer course at CU or
- Book stipend effective Fall of your second year
End of the Second year (GPA of 3.0 and 48 credits earned):
- One free 3 credit summer course at CU or
- Book stipend effective Fall of your third year
