Certificate in Podcasting
Caldwell University is proud to launch a new Certificate in Podcasting, a two-semester, 12-credit program offered through the Department of Communication and Media Studies. The certificate can be completed over the course of an academic year through evening and/or weekend classes.
Podcasting has quickly become a significant communication platform. Influencers, personalities, authors, and experts use podcasts to engage with audiences and build a following. Podcasters entertain, inform, share expertise and opinions, and, increasingly, use their captive audiences to promote products, services, books, tours and more.
Program Outcomes
Students will learn how to develop, edit, and perform podcasts, curate content, and more from Communications Department Chair and seasoned podcaster, Bob Mann. During the independent study course, students will have the opportunity to develop their own podcast.
Areas of focus include:
- Public speaking and radio broadcasting
- Podcast logistics – equipment, platforms, software, set-up costs, etc.
- Legal and copyright concerns
- Content curation
- Audio editing
- Monetization, sponsorship, and promotion
Courses
The Certificate in Podcasting consists of four 3-credit courses:
Fall:
CO 230 Communication Skills
CO 350 Radio and Podcasting
Spring:
CO 410 Advanced Podcasting
3-credit Independent Study in Developing an Original Podcast
The 12-credit Podcasting Certificate program is open to applicants with a high school diploma. Classes will generally be held in the evenings. College graduates may be able to opt out of the communication skills class if you’ve taken a public speaking course.
The Podcasting Certificate is currently open to 14 students per semester so space is limited.
