Honor Societies

Phi Alpha Theta (the International Honor Society in History) is a professional society whose mission is to promote the study of History through the encouragement of research, good teaching, publication and the exchange of learning and ideas among Historians. Phi Alpha Theta seeks to bring students, teachers and writers of History together for intellectual and social exchanges, which promote and assist Historical research and publication by its members in a variety of ways.

Caldwell University’s Alpha Delta Sigma chapter of Phi Alpha Theta was founded in 1989. Induction into our chapter of Phi Alpha Theta is a recognition of outstanding academic achievement in the study of history. Each Spring the Caldwell University Department of History and Political Science holds an induction ceremony and dinner at which new inductees to Phi Alpha Theta are honored.

Pi Sigma Alpha (the National Political Science Honor Society) seeks to promote excellence in the study of political science. Pi Sigma Alpha was founded in 1920 at the University of Texas for the purpose of bringing together students and faculty interested in the study of government and politics. The Articles of Incorporation of Pi Sigma Alpha state as one of its purposes “to stimulate scholarship and intelligent interest in political science.” The society functions at the national level, sponsoring programs and events of value to the profession and teaching of political science, and at the chapter level.

Caldwell University’s Alpha Alpha Delta chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha was founded in 2002. Students are inducted into this chapter as a recognition of their outstanding achievement in the study of Political Science. The induction of new members takes place in the Spring semester during the History and Political Science Department’s annual honor society induction and dinner.
