The Visceglia Gallery at Caldwell College is proud to present the exhibit Transform / Transmute from October 21 to November 13, 2009.
Four artists, Elizabeth Duffy, Matt Magee, Shari Mendelson and Ilene Sunshine, reconfigure everyday recyclable materials such as aluminum cans, plastic bottles and bags, paper waste, and Christmas trees. Projects will use the gallery as well as outdoor spaces.
The intersection of our ‘day to day’ lives with the culture and history contained in the everyday flux of desire, commerce and consumption is a potent zone for the artist as scavenger, historian or archaeologist. Common to each approach is a particular sensitivity to the existence of ‘things’ that pass through our lives and are discarded. The act of seeing and shaping our relationship to the world transforms, resets and redefines our understanding of it.
On November 4th the gallery will host a discussion with the artists on their work and studio process from 2 to 4 p.m. A reception for the artists will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. later that afternoon. All are welcome.
