Caldwell College Students Appointed To New Jersey State Student Advisory Committee

Caldwell College students Saikat Gomes and Ma'Isah Bohannan have been appointed to serve on the 2008-09 Student Advisory Committee of the New Jersey Higher Education Student Assistance Authority (HESAA).

The mission of HESAA is to provide students and families with the financial and informational resources for students to pursue their education beyond high school. The Student Advisory Committee (SAC) has been in existence since the implementation of the Tuition Aid Grant program in 1978.

Gomes and Bohannan will serve on the committee with 25 other students from New Jersey colleges and universities. The committee will provide the SAC Chair and Vice Chair with students’ perspectives on student aid. The Chair and Vice Chairman of the SAC are voting members of the HESAA Board.

Gomes and Bohannan are both excited about the opportunity to bring the voice of students to a state level, to network with students from other universities and colleges and to bring visibility to Caldwell College. “Having the committee and giving students this voice is a big step for students,” Bohannan said. Gomes points out that with today’s economy and globalization, the bottom line is to make sure that students have access to quality higher education. “The objective is to make college affordable,” he said.

Gomes and Bohannan, who are both seniors, have been members and officers of Caldwell College Student Government Association for the past three years. Bohannon has a double major in psychology and criminal justice. Gomes has a double major in Computer Information Systems and Mathematics with a minor in Economics.
